At Behavior Resources, the initial assessment appointment is generally conducted via Zoom. Your child may or may not be present. Most families find it easier to not have the child present for this meeting as we will be asking you candid questions about their behavior. During this meeting, we will ask about your child’s family life, school, any concerning behaviors, and their personal strengths and deficits. We will also complete a large assessment parent survey, the Vineland. In general, the Zoom assessment meeting takes 1-1.5 hours on average.
After the Zoom meeting, the clinician will schedule an in-home visit to meet your child. During this meeting, we will build rapport with your child and also ask you to provide some situations that are typically difficult (for example, brushing teeth or completing a chore). The clinician will not provide any specific behavioral recommendations yet. You will be assigned a small homework assignment- typically to notate some data on behaviors you and the clinician have identified as problematic (for example: tantrum behavior, inappropriate mouthing, etc.) A second in-home visit will be scheduled and the clinician may also request to observe your child at school or another setting, if permitted. In-home visits average 1.5-2 hours per meeting.
After all visits are completed, your clinician will write an assessment report. This report will include your behavioral concerns, a behavior plan to address concerns, and goals specific to your child’s needs. The report will be sent to your child’s insurance company. Insurance will review and respond, typically within 2-14 days. Once approved, your clinician will be in touch to start weekly services!
